West Seattle Bridge -- September 1983

For this photograph, I climbed through a hatch in the deck of the bridge, down a steel ladder to a steel mesh box underneath. Though the steel mesh box was perfectly stable, the feeling one gets is that there isn't very much between oneself and the rest of the world. Even though I was securely tied to the bridge with a safety line, the experience was more than enough to take my breath away.
